Michael Gage’s family-owned dealership gave him the feel for the automobile business as a young man. He spent his summers learning from the ground up: delivering parts, washing cars, janitorial work, and other odd jobs. He bought his own under-performing store in 1972, Mike Gage Chevrolet, and after seeing his sales increase 700% in 10 years, he made the decision to sell and relocate to southern Florida.
Michael worked in sales at Clark Oldsmobile and Acura of Palm Beach before being hired as GM at DeSimone Cadillac in Pennsauken, New Jersey. His responsibility was to restructure the store after the owner’s death. In 1992 he acquired a BMW, Porsche, Audi dealership, Gage Motorcar Co. LLC in Charlottesville, VA. Before selling the franchises to the Asbury Automotive Group and Don Flow Automotive Co., he increased the business significantly and relocated the BMW-Porsche franchises to a facility he designed and built.
Since selling the dealerships he has been actively engaged in automotive consulting through the Gerson Lehrman Group, became a licensed Realtor, and worked with a company monetizing a mortgage loan data base. The vast amount of experience Michael brings to MD Johnson Inc. has provided many contacts and long-term friendships spanning quite a diverse geographic and brand-specific range. These relationships are valuable in matching sellers with the best possible buyers.
